Enrique Velazquez

Head of Public Affairs at EBF

 

 

 

Enrique has worked for the Brussels-based European Banking Federation (EBF) for over six years. He was appointed Head of Public Affairs in March 2012. Before that, he was Senior Adviser in charge of Financial Markets and Global Banking Issues. He had direct responsibility over secondary markets dossiers, such as MiFID, MAD, Short Selling and PRIPs. he led EBF´s lobbying activities on EMIR. Working with the CEOs of European national banking associations, he was also responsible for developing the position of European banks on the global financial crisis and has influenced policy stakeholders at European and global levels.

Prior to joining EBF, Enrique was a Supervision Officer at the Spanish Securities Markets Supervisor (CNMV) in Madrid for over four years. He was also an Officer at the Paris-based Committee for European Securities Regulators (CESR), the European body that developed common regulatory and supervisory standards in the EU for securities regulation and that formed the embryo of the current European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). He started his professional activity in education as a post-graduate level junior lecturer.

Enrique holds a double degree in European Business Studies from the University of Humberside (United Kingdom) and in Law, from the Universidad Autónoma, in Madrid. He is a Spanish national and also fluent in English.
